Do we Swedes set our expectations totally wrong?

Are you watching the Olympic Games? I am trying to watch some nice competitions on TV whenever I have the opportunity. That’s a good thing with working from home. I think the Olympic Games is the one time opportunity to watch sports you didn’t even know existed! But there is one thing that bothers me.

I don’t know if it has to do with the Swedish mentality, but every time when there is a major championship, we set our expectations on our athletes at the highest level, making the fall much worse. It might be the press that creates the hysteria, but any sane human should realize that even if an athlete is in the best shape ever, that does not mean that he or she is the only one that has prepared for the big moment. For some reason we think that we should set our expectations for gold in every sport, just because we believe that we have prepared better than everyone else. It would be interesting to hear if this exists in other countries too?

For the same reason, I believe that it is important to set our expectations at a reasonable level for our work and for our personal situation too. As for our MLM or Home Business, we might have set our expectations to become millionaires in six months, and for different reasons we are not even making a profit by that time. That could have the effect that we just quit! End of story!

The way to set our expectations:

But you have to start with setting your expectations at a level that is not only reachable, but also possible to reach in a defined time. It is not a bad idea to revise our intentions when we have reached our first goal, and set our expectations to a new higher level. But do try to avoid setting your expectations to reach for the stars and feel yourself falling from the sky because you did not reach all the way. You will reach the stars eventually, if you avoid the Swedish way to set our expectations!
