Just when the majority of Facebook users are changing over to the Facebook Timeline layout, the
rumor of Facebook Timeline for pages fired up. Even though many brand marketers tried to convince their audience (and themselves?) it would not happen, this is no longer a rumor. Facebook executives confirmed the rumor just some days ago, and Timeline for pages will be launched soon. It might even happen this month!
So what effect will this have on all third-party applications and individual features that we have seen implemented during the last layout era? No-one really knows yet, but make sure that changes have to come. The official announcement is planned for February 29th, so before that it is just a guessing game. And after the announcement, Facebook normally has a 90 day heads-up period to make it possible for third-party suppliers to adopt to the new platform.
No matter what will happen, it is time to start thinking about how to turn this to your own advantage, and how to make the best of the Facebook Timeline for pages. And by making a comparison with the Timeline for profiles, it is not that difficult to find some ares to work with.
- Better use of photos! Your posted photos gets more attention by the timeline layout, compared to photos posted on the wall. This can be used to create better and more attractive updates.
- Speaking of photos, the Facebook Timeline cover photo gives every brand a golden opportunity to show a great ”banner”to make the page stand out. Instead of using custom tab applications, you will now be able to create a first impression from the Facebook Timline itself. Just imagine what you can do with that space!
- We already know that Facebook ”actions” is changing the way you interact with posted content. This will of course be used by the brands on their Facebook Timeline too. We will not just ”Like” what we see. We will ”Want”, ”Love” and ”Own” what we see. It opens up for even more interaction with the brands. Hopefully they are all prepared for it?
- Facebook Timeline main feature! In case you did not think about it. The timeline story itself. Your brand will be able to tell it’s own story and present the ”Big Picture” in a new way compared to the snapshots you can do with simple wall posts.
We have an exiting time laying in front of us. The Facebook Timeline for pages will open up for a new way to brand our business, and as always, we are in the hands of Facebook. But if you prepare yourself and make ready for day one, you will be one step ahead of the competition!
Kudos to Max-B for the cool pic.
