Yes, they took us with surprise again. We expected something like 90 days to prepare for the new era. Facebook pages changing over to the Timeline format. But no! On February 29th, the message came. Facebook pages will have the Timeline format by the end of March! And there are in fact some pages already converted. Coca-Cola is one of them.
And there will be changes. Some are good and some are less good (depending on your view of interest). As an admin of a Facebook page, you can start working with your page right now, and when you are done, you can make it public. Remember, from March 30 there is no point of return!
So what about the changes? Well, here’s some good ones:
People can send messages to the Fan Page
You will be able to show a massive 850px*315px cover photo.
New improved administrator panel.
Better display of fans, photos and posts (as for the personal Timeline format)
Custom tabs can now be 810px wide, and you can create your own large thumbnail for it (and for all your apps)
Create ”sticky” updates
But of course there is a downside too:
You can no longer define your default landing page. The Timeline page is fixed.
No more tabs on the left hand. If you have many tabs, only three of them are displayed. Tabs are now at the top of the page.
No more photo strip! The only way to make a nice photo impression with the Fan Page Timline is to use the cover photo. But, as Facebook states: ”This space is not meant for promotions, coupons, or advertisements.” you have to be careful in how to create it.
So make sure you will see a lot of comments about this change. But if you are an admin, you now have less than 30 days to change your pages. That will keep us busy! If you have any questions or comments about these changes, let me know.
